We thought we should give you a short insight into our life - or rather, should we say 'lives', as we have been extremely fortunate to have lived several different lives already - in order for you to understand how we came to 'JUS LIMIN' in this charming Little Karoo town called Montagu.
Several moons ago we worked in the corporate world, where it mattered what car we were driving and who we socialized with. On the day Alan resigned from the rat race, he drove home and, for the first time in years, looked up to see a waterfall gushing down the mountain. The waterfall appeared after every rain, but he had never noticed it before. This was the start of our new life.
For the following 16 years we experienced the serenity and peace and also the challenges and wonder of nature, as we lived a life at sea, sailing across oceans and working as Captain and Mate/Chef on several different vessels.
Naturally, after such a long time living at anchor or in small harbours all over the world, we couldn't see ourselves moving back to the city and so, when we came back home, we found another new life in which we could immerse ourselves in nature.
We bought a 3-hectare town farm in Montagu with magnificent views onto the rugged mountains and we found complete happiness in the simple things in life, such as our 47 girls that laid an endless amount of eggs and entertained us every day. We learnt all about organic farming challenges and solutions and after five years we were ready for yet another change.
Living and working predominantly in a natural environment had given us a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment not contrived by artificial means - It is hard to beat the emotional high one feels when one sails across the sea and encounters a pod of dolphins in the middle of the ocean after weeks of solitude. Or the feeling of achievement after personally picking, brining, bottling and selling our organically grown olives when we had been told by other farmers that our methods won't work.
But - we were still trying to do a million things all at once and we found ourselves slipping back into a life full of self imposed busyness instead of focusing on what's really important to us and letting go of the rest. And so we moved to a smaller town farm in Montagu, where we can still grow our own food, where we hear the soothing song of birds instead of traffic all day long, where we look up at our majestic mountains in awe and where we feel the healing power of nature just by being here.
We also aim to spend more time in the one place in Africa that is still almost untouched by human activities and sounds - the African Bush.
We would like to share our hidden patch of land with you, knowing that you will feel relaxed and rejuvenated after a few days here and to remind us all to take time out of our busy schedules we couldn't think of a better name for this tranquil hideaway than 'JUS LIMIN'.
Welcome to 'JUS LIMIN'!
